This is another drama that I am looking forward to. Can you guess why?

Because it’s starring Park Yoochun who is 1/5 of my favorite Korean boy group TVXQ. Kyaaa! Okay, that’s enough fangirling for now.

Since the announcement of the drama a few months back, a lot of fans have been excited not only because one of its lead is a popular singer but because of its storyline which is a cross between Boys Over Flowers and You Are Beautiful set during the Joseon dynasty.

The drama takes place at Sungkyunkwan University which is a real Confucian University and exists up to this day. The girl Kim Yoon Hee, played by Park Min Young, enters the university in place of her brother who has fallen ill. Because of that, she has to pretend to be a man. In the university, she became friends with the four popular guys Lee Sun Joon (Park Yoochun) who is brainy and rich, Goo Yong Ha (Song Joong Ki) the playboy and the rebellious Moon Jae Shin (Yoo Ah In.)

Aside from pretending to be a guy, why is a woman entering a university a scandal? Well, Korea is basically a patriarchal society due to its Confucian roots. Only the men belonging to the noble class (yangban) can go to school. Women are like second-class citizens who are deprived from receiving proper education. Kim Yoon Hee must go through a lot of trials to protect her identity as well as fight for her rights as a woman.

Now, doesn’t this bit of information excite you more?

Sungkyunkwan Scandal will start airing on August 30 at KBS on a Monday-Tuesday timeslot.

Guess who are in a soccer team?

Five good-looking and talented young men from the Korean entertainment industry recently formed a celebrity soccer team. Can you guess who they are?

It’s TVXQ’s Kim Junsu, Kim Jaejoong and Park Yoochun with SS501′s Kim Hyun Joong and BOF’s Kim Bum who is more popularly known as Yi Jung. These guys came together to form the soccer team that they named as “Men.”

Although Junsu and Hyun Joong were planning the team since last year, it was only two months ago that the team was finalized with Junsu as the first captain to lead “Men.” It is a well-known fact that Junsu loves soccer so much and is very good in playing it that he even considered becoming professional soccer player. Meanwhile, we’ve already seen Hyun Joong and Kim Bum play the sport in episode 21 of Boys Over Flowers. As for Jaejoong and Yoochun, I’ve seen them play futsal (a version of soccer) in All About DBSK 3.

The team submitted their application to participate in the 2010 Peace Star Cup Celebrities’ Football League but it was rejected because it was already pass the deadline.

Creating a celebrity sports team is not a new phenomenon in Korea. In 2006, Hallyu stars Jang Dong Gun (All About Eve), Hyun Bin (My Name is Kim Sam Soon), Gong Yoo (Coffee Prince) and Ji Jin Hee (Jewel in the Palace) formed a baseball team that they named “Playboys.” Junsu, Jaejoong and Yoochun also played in 2006 with fellow TVXQ members Jung Yunho and Shin Changmin as part of the soccer team of SM Entertainment.

Writer’s Note: Is this a good team or what? I can’t say how they will perform on soccer matches because even though I know Junsu to be a very good player, there’s Jaejoong who is known as the non-competitive one (fans please don’t brick me, he’s my favorite tvxq member). I’m surprised that Kim Bum is in this team since he’s not associated with TVXQ but then again, he’s friends with Kim Hyun Joong who is a close friend of Jaejoong. One thing is for sure though, this team is full of eye candy. I bet a lot of fans will be watching whenever they play. hahaha! With the World Cup in South Africa starting this June, I can totally imagine them cheering for the Red Devils.

This drama is definitely going into our must-watch list. Lee Min Ho looks mighty fine driving that top-down car and Son Ye Jin is so cute despite the unkept image. Both are good actors and the storyline is definitely interesting. What reason would not make you watch this? Definitely none.

Kim Bum is a musician in a new drama

After Kim Bum’s latest drama Dream and his cameo appearance in High Kick Through the Roof (which is a spin-off of Unstoppable High Kick which catapulted him to fame), Kim Bum will once again star in MBC’s latest drama The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry.

Kim Bum will play a 20-year old guitarist in an indie band who is in a relationship with a 32-year old reporter played by Park Jin Hee.

The drama which is the sequel to The Woman Who Wants to Marry (2004) tells the story of three women in their thirty’s, their love lives and their careers. The other roles are played by Eom Ji Won who plays an interpreter and Wang Bit Na.

Meanwhile, the other women’s love interests are played by Choi Chul-ho and Lee Pil-mo.

This drama will start airing mid-January in the Wednesday-Thursday timeslot.

author’s notes: I just have to stop myself from squealing after seeing Kim Bum’s latest look for this drama. Honestly, could Kim Bum get any more handsome than this? I love his long hair.

Must See You’re Beautiful

I think I’m going to be finally cured of my BOF addiction thanks to the new trendy drama You’re Beautiful starring cutie Jang Geun Suk, Park Shin Hye, Jung Yong Hwa and Lee Hong Ki.

Jang Geun Suk is Hwang Tae Kyung, the lead singer of the idol band A.N. Jell who is very famous in Korea. He is cute, in his own grumpy way and loves to sneer. He wears an eyeliner by the way. A lot of fangirls adore him though because well, he is really good looking and talented. But they have to bring in another member to the band because he’s having some vocal (throat?) problems.

Here comes Go Mi Nam or rather Go Mi Nyeo both portrayed by Park Shin Hye. Confused now? Go Mi Nam is the new A.N Jell member. However, he is having some corrective surgey done in the US because of a surgery-gone-awry and will be gone for a month. The agency is eager to sign Mi Nam at the soonest possible time so his manager has no choice but to look for Mi Nyeo and ask her to pretend to be her twin brother. Go Mi Nyeo is an apprentice nun bound for Rome but things did not go as planned (it is definitely God’s will). In the end, she signed the contract and became Go Mi Nam.

The two other A.N. Jell members are Shin Woo and Jeremy played by Jung Yong Hwa and Lee Hong Ki respectively. Shin Woo has a gentle and kind personality, unlike the bad tempered Tae Kyung while Jeremy is the childish and most imaginative of them three.

So what happens after Go Min Nyeo enters the band? A lot of laughs and cracktastic scenes (plus heartaches) ensue of course. This drama is definitely a must-watch to those who want a good stress reliever at the middle of the week.
